PETALING JAYA: Seasoned riders Ahmad Fazli Sham and Ahmad Fuad Baharudin
expect to enjoy a great home run when Round Six of the Petronas AAM Malaysian Cub Prix Championship moves to
their home town of Perak next week.
Taiping-born Fazli, the Shell Advance Yamaha Maju Motor rider who has
accumulated 101 points, hopes to consolidate his lead in the overall standings while second-placed Fuad, of
Petronas Sprinta Yamaha AHM Racing, is bent on claiming pole position when the CP130 category race revs off in
Teluk Intan from Aug 7-8.
The pressure is clearly on the top drawcards as both Fazli and Fuad intend to
stamp their mark and make a name for themselves like former Cub Prix legends from Perak – M. Meganathan, Wazi
Abdul Hami and Malaysia’s ex-MotoGP rider Shahrol Yuzy Ahmad Zaini, who now spearheads Modenas Yuzy
According to Yuzy, both Fazli and Fuad had an equal chance of winning in Teluk
Intan despite the track being rather technical, with its U-turn and high-speed corners.
“Fazli and Fuad have an equal chance to claim victory because it is a new
venue ... so neither will have any form of advantage. But if I had to choose between the two, I would say Fuad
stands a better chance,” said Yuzy.
“Fuad has 13 years of racing experience in the Cub Prix Championship and Teluk
Intan is his home town.
“However, we must not dismiss Fazli’s skill and capability.
“He has has won two Expert titles and numerous podiums throughout his career.
Fazli is also very aggressive compared to Fuad, who prefers to ride ‘safe’.”
