Heritage town status for Taiping

TOURISM POTENTIAL: Move to ensure its rich historical and heritage treasures are
TAIPING: PLANS are in the pipeline to turn the town here, which
is rich in tourism products, especially old and historical treasures, into a Permanent Heritage Town.
Tourism Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Nazri Abdul Aziz said his ministry would hold
discussions with the Perak government to ensure that all the historical and heritage treasures here were preserved
as tourism icons.
"We want to ensure these treasures are protected, especially from development

to preserve them as national tourism icons.
"The ministry will consider and approve a suitable amount to preserve the
historical and heritage values of Taiping as part of its plans to usher in Visit Malaysia Year 2014."
