Reunion for Taiping Convent
By CHERYL HEW
WITH most of their schoolmates already in their 50s, the Taiping
Convent Class of ‘79 thought it was time to hold a reunion.
Fun times: The class of ‘79 during a Chinese New Year gathering at one of the alumni’s house at Bukit Antarabangsa,
Organising committee president Woon Suey Sy said a group of them, recently decided
to hold a get-together after parting ways 33 years ago.
“We will be having a reunion dinner at the Perdana Hotel in Taiping on Dec
“The theme for the event is ‘The ‘70s’ as we think those were our formative years,
which moulded our friendship.
“There will be a dinner, a montage of our memories, a lucky draw and door gifts
for everyone to remember that special day,” she said.
Woon said with the help of Facebook, the committee had so far managed to track
down 173 schoolmates.
“Over 50 alumni and 10 former teachers have confirmed their attendance but we hope
to have at least 100 attendees.
“Some are even flying back from the UK, Australia and Singapore for this reunion,”
Woon said although some of them had been sharing their photographs and
corresponding with each other via e-mail or telephone, nothing could beat meeting each other
“The reunion dinner will be the first time where almost all of us will be in the
same room after 33 years of living scattered around the country and even abroad.
“It will be a great opportunity to meet up and see that life has not changed us
despite the childbearing and nurturing years,” she said.
